Feel free to contact us and see if this class is a good fit for your family. This is a 20 week class that runs January 6th-June 4th with an optional weather make-up class on June 11th! Payment plans are available.

During this class, teens will learn skills that hones their thinking and writing skills and builds their confidence. High schoolers need to be able to communicate their thoughts in a clear and persuasive manner. Even reluctant writers can build a strong skill set for essay-writing as we break the process into manageable steps. The logical thinking process behind a well-written essay is not intuitive to most kids. This class is presented in a friendly, conversational style so that every child can feel comfortable. We meet each student where they are and support even the most reluctant writer!
Students will be assigned reading at home for in class literature dissection and analysis. Students will need their own copy of the books to bring to each class.

We will be using, Advanced Guide to High School Essay Writing as our spine to guide students through skills that will help them confidently write college-ready literary analysis and other essays. Although this is a faith based curriculum, the class is not.  

During this course students will learn: 
  • Essay Format
  • Persuasive Essay
  • The Compare/Contrast Essay
  • The Timed Essay
  • Editing Checklist
  • Avoiding Sentence Fragments

Homework: students will complete their writing assignments at home along with any reading material. Plan at least 2-4 hours a week based on the student. Students are assigned one book every 2-3 weeks to complete at home. Students should come to class prepared to discuss the book!

Grading: this class will be graded using a common rubric.
