Using the facilities at Kilrush Marina as a base, our courses offer the participant excellent training grounds with exercises conducted in the confines of the marina, as well as out on the tidal Shannon Estuary. The nature of the base we operate from even allows operating and use of automated lock gates which you would not otherwise experience elsewhere.
Skills learned on this course include:
- Boat preparation and equipment for longer passages
- Boat Handling including slow speed transfers
- Rough weather handling
- Navigation and Passage Planning
- Use of GPS and nav equipment
- Tide and weather theory
- Safety
- Collision regulations
- Care of Boats and Equipment
- A range of other skills!
Participants coming on this course should be proficient in passage planning and should have knowledge of the IRPCS including light aspects as covered on the Coastal Navigation for Small Boats Course
There is night passage involved in this course after hours of darkness. With that in mind, participants should bring extra thermals as it will be cold whatever the forecasted weather is.
