She is the author of the Guide for Engaging & Supporting Parents Affected by Domestic Violence (NCDVTMH, 2015), and co-author of the Family-Centered Toolkit for Domestic Violence Programs (NCDVTMH, 2021).
Susan's professional career has spanned close to 50 years of clinical social work practice, with supervisory leadership and program management experience, specializing in the field of child and family mental health, child trauma, domestic violence, and interpersonal abuse. Susan retired from full time work in 2022. She continues to be invested in building more responsive community-based services and systems to support healing and resilience with children, families, and caregivers affected by interpersonal violence and trauma.
During her 18 years at the National Center, Susan also provided leadership for a capacity-building initiative in the Chicago metro area that was privately supported. As part of this work, she developed intensive leadership training for DV supervisors and managers followed by ongoing peer consultation (in-person, and then online during COVID) from 2016 through 2021. The proposed group is based on the peer consultation model developed during those years.
