About this Course:

The EMDR R-TEP protocol is applied when a recent event has occurred that requires containment and additional assistance with integration beyond the standard protocol. It is a comprehensive approach to treating recent events in the belief that serious trauma symptoms may be prevented by receiving early interventions. The protocol contains built in checks to address stuck points quickly while recognizing the importance of meeting the clients where they are and taking it step by step. It is a comprehensive approach to treating recent events in the belief that serious trauma symptoms are prevented by receiving early interventions.

The EMDR G-TEP protocol is a group application useful for small groups including couples, families, and those impacted by the same traumatic event, such as a natural disaster or act of violence.

We will cover:

  • Four Elements Resource Technique
  • Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol
  • Group Traumatic Episode Protocol

These protocols and techniques blend seamlessly to meet a range of needs including assessment, stabilization, individual reprocessing, and group reprocessing. No matter what your circumstances are for delivery of therapy, you'll learn where to start and how to progress through multiple treatment options.

The two-day, comprehensive training leads you step by step through research validated protocols for working with survivors of recent trauma both individually and in groups. While EMDR Basic Training provides an overview of one of the recent events protocols, we will shed light on broader applications of how and when to use EMDR and EMDR-derived techniques for early trauma intervention.

Participants Will be Able to:

  • Identify when Early EMDR Intervention is appropriate.
  • Compare the EMDR standard protocol and EMDR R-TEP protocol.
  • Demonstrate Early EMDR clinical skills with additional measures for containment and safety.
  • Describe EMD, EMDr, EMDR and how each is applied.
  • Identify key features and concepts for the R-TEP protocol.
  • Use key procedures for the R-TEP protocol.
  • Identify key features and concepts of the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP).

  • Use key procedures for the G-TEP protocol.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP) in their clinical practice.
  • Evaluate the significance of the G-TEP and Early Intervention.

About The Presenter:

Bill Brislin, LMHC, EMDRIA-Approved Trainer and Consultant:

Bill was fortunate to have been trained in the Recent Traumatic Episodes Protocol (R-TEP) in 2010 by its developers, Elan Shapiro & Brurit Laub. He became an approved trainer in 2016. In collaboration with Reg Morrow Robinson, he presented the first Group Traumatic Episodes Protocol (G-TEP) in the United States and to date, has conducted over 40 R-TEP/G-TEP trainings.

Bill responded to the Orlando Pulse Nightclub mass shooting as a volunteer clinician and conducted a quickly arranged R-TEP/G-TEP training. Many of the other trainings he’s conducted have been in response to gun violence and other disasters. Along with virtual trainings, he has presented at Fort Hood (Texas), Chicago, Cincinnati, Toledo, Virginia Beach, Quantico Marine Base, and multiple Florida cities.

After conducting EMDR basic training in Kyiv, Ukraine, Bill maintained relationships with Ukrainian consultees and trainees. While collaborating with other EMDR clinicians to provide group EMDR therapy to therapists affected by the invasion of Ukraine, he was one of the first therapists to deliver the new Group Resource Enhancement Protocol (G-REP), developed by Maria Masciandaro, to individuals lacking conditions of present safety. Maria and Bill coauthored a chapter, Group Resource Enhancement Protocol, published in “EMDR Group Therapy” (2024). He has developed a one-hour on-demand training on this protocol.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Bill has been a therapist in Orlando, Florida for nearly forty years. He is an EMDRIA-Approved Basic Trainer and Consultant as well as an EMDR R-TEP/G-TEP approved trainer… and yes, he has a long-haired miniature dachshund!
