Intro to Woodcarving: Love Spoons
Discover the rich tradition of love spoon carving in this hands-on workshop designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Dating back to 16th century Wales, a love spoon is an intricately carved wooden token symbolizing love and commitment. In this 4-hour class, students will start with their own slab of basswood. You will cut it into a spoon blank using the bandsaw, and proceed to carve your own love spoon using a coping saw, scroll saw, and specialty carving knives like sloyds and hook knives. Students will be guided by instructor Mariah Day. Artistic freedom and design are encouraged, but templates will be provided to ignite the creative process.
