Moderate cycling

A moderate cycling event based at Alstonefield Youth Hostel in the White Peak is planned from 10^th to13^th July 2025. Situated near to the High Peak, Tissington and Manifold Trails, these provide substantial stretches of gentle gradients as they are former railway lines. Otherwise we mostly keep to quiet lanes. The Friday and Saturday rides are just under 40 miles with Sunday’s ride being somewhat less than this. On Friday we visit the High Peak and Tissington Trails and also Carsington Reservoir with its visitor centre. On Saturday we visit the Manifold valley before heading out into the Staffordshire Moorlands and Flash, the highest village in England! At least we will hopefully be rewarded with sweeping views across the Cheshire plains. Sunday we drive over to Bakewell for a shorter, easier day on the Monsal Trail before sampling a Bakewell pudding and heading home.

The hostel comprises 2 former barns converted into accommodation. There is a central kitchen, dining area and lounge. We have exclusive use, which will make it easier to hold an act of worship. Rooms are all ensuite. Price is £106 per person. We will be organising group catering and perhaps go out one night.
