Drawing with Charcoal, the Figure from Life with Bill Rogers
The models' fee is included in the workshop price.
The workshop will be broken into morning and afternoon sessions with a break for lunch from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. There is a small fridge and a microwave if you wish to bring a lunch, or Sobeys, Boston Pizza, and Justamere cafe are all within walking distance from The Arts House.
The morning will start with a live model. After the principles are discussed using the live model, we will do a series of exercises to put them into practice. We will do one longer pose before the lunch break.
Starting off with the gesture/thrust of the figure, proportions with and without foreshortening are practiced.
Bill will talk a lot on composition/design because this is maybe the most important element in a work of art. Good placement of the figure on the rectangle/canvas/paper is the most crucial beginning step. A good start is essential, as bad starts almost always result in failure. He will get into specifics about anatomy and proportions as well, so that your charcoal drawings look convincing. There will be a model for the morning and another for the afternoon. All models will be clothed.
