Welcome to Continuing Wheel – A Cup Above: Making Better Mugs! Mugs and cups are incredibly intimate forms that offer profound opportunities to communicate with a user– if you’re hoping to spend some time tuning these forms and getting helpful feedback, this 8 week course will prove a great fit.
This deep dive continuing wheel course is designed to help participants create efficiently thrown forms that are also compositionally articulate. Technical considerations will be supplemented with options for alterations such as lobing, squaring, paddling, dimpling, stretching, darting, stamping, and faceting. In pursuit of more dynamic objects, we will break down coffee mugs, tumblers, juice cups, highballs, and tankards, as well as stemware such as goblets and chalices!
We will learn about throwing off the hump, throwing taller, throwing chucks for trimming, trimming effective feet, throwing feet, constructing successful handles, and assembling components. We will also tune our powers of observation to consider the aesthetic and functional elements of our objects. Finally, we will learn to plan our glaze choices and glazing practices to best realize our vessel visions!
Each week will consist of instructor demos and personal making time. Students will also have full access to the studio during open hours for the duration of their 8 Week course (6am-2am All Days)
