This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness for those functioning as a member of the health care team in a pre-hospital setting. Course is for those providing a professional level of emergency response including firefighters, law-enforcement officers, and emergency medical services personnel. Includes CPR level BLS and AED. (EMR: Meets the Paramedic Association of Canada National Occupational Competency Profiles for the practitioner level of emergency medical responder.)
Audience
Professionals in emergency medical care who may be responsible for initial assessments, the provision of safe and prudent care, and the transport of a patient to the most appropriate healthcare facility.

Prerequisite
- Proof of a valid and recognized FR Certificate must be presented on the first day of the course

Completion Requirements
- Successfully demonstrate the required skills
- Minimum 75% mark for written, closed book, knowledge evaluation
- Successfully complete minimum of two practical scenarios
- Attend and participate in 100% of the course
Certification
- 3-year certification in First Responder (digital certificate issued upon successful completion)
- 1-year certification in Basic Life Support (digital certificate issued upon successful completion)
The certification period for most Canadian Red Cross courses is three years. Participants are encouraged to attend courses more frequently to assist with skill retention and confidence level when providing first aid. Some workplaces, employers and organizations may require their members/employees to attend first aid courses more frequently than the three-year period.

Our classroom is equipped with all the necessary tools for you to be successful in the course. A digital copy of the textbook will be sent to you along with a host of documents to support your learning. Upon receipt, please feel free to start reviewing the Emergency Care for Professional Responders Textbook (PDF), and the Workbook for your course level. The Workbook is designed to be used as a study guide. We suggest that you start it prior too the course and complete it as we progress through the course, you WILL be required to submit it upon course completion.
We highly recommend that students purchase a copy of the Printed Textbook and a Professional Responder Student Kit. You are then free to use your textbook to take notes in and use you own equipment.
