Only one dog per handler will be selected for a working spot, however, you may enter more than one of your dogs for consideration.
Working dog teams will be selected based on their skill level and an effort to show a variety of dogs and styles for the learning benefit of all participants.
Working Teams will be chosen by 1/31/25. Teams selected for a working spot will be notified by email including a link to submit the working spot fee of $250. Payment to hold your spot must be made within 72 hours of being selected.

Dogs should be resilient to challenging environments, have strong odor obedience, and be comfortable being watched by a large group of people in a variety of rooms/spaces.
Dogs who have less experience traveling new places, being crated away from their owner, or less understanding of odor or who can become easily distracted by the environment would not be well suited for a working spot for this seminar.
Additionally, dogs who are environmentally sensitive or reactive/aggressive with people or more than mildly reactive with other dogs would not be well suited for this type of event.
Dogs MUST be able to stay quietly in their crates out of sight from their handlers. Please bring whatever your dog needs to be made comfortable/safely confined between searches.
Dogs must be healthy on event day and should be current on all vaccinations required by law.

Workshop Description:
Training is not just about setting hides and problem solving for the dog. It’s about improving our handling skills and having the tools to support our dogs effectively in any search.
One of the best advantages we can have as a competitor is the ability to support our dog in a competent and responsive way. In this 2-day workshop, Dana will focus on the handler’s role in the search, and help each participant make the most of training to prepare for trial in a way that makes the most sense to the dog and allows for a more fluid transition from training to competition. She will discuss in detail how handling in training is often very different than trialing (whether you realize it or not) and how to have more consistency between the two. This applies to all levels from ORT to Summit!
Dana will discuss ways to promote independence and problem solving skills and make each and every search the best it can be for every dog.
Day 1 will focus on the basics of handling and discuss odor movement and why dogs may search the way they do. We will look at how we vary in our handling in training and trial and discuss the impact it may have on the dog and the search.
Day 2 continues this discussion with a focus on containers, the most challenging element for many competitors. Why can this part of the game be so much more difficult? Should you handle it differently? Can containers be fun for both members of the team?
Throughout both days, Dana will tailor each exercise to the team’s level and will use her many years of experience observing this game of nose work to help each individual team improve and become a more cohesive unit.
