This course introduces students to object-oriented programming using the Java programming language. Core topics in the context of the Java programming language include object-oriented design concepts, such as classes, interfaces, arrays, and recursion. Students are also introduced to standard Java libraries.

Much of the course is project-based, with assignments emphasizing the design of classes and algorithms appropriate to a problem.

Course Goals:

  • Learn about datatypes, loops, arrays (1-dimensional and 2-dimensional), and recursion
  • Understand how inheritance and recursion can be used to solve programs
  • Work on projects to handle file processing and manipulation
  • Explore version control and GitHub
  • Prepare students for Java AP Level course
