Advanced Drone Course (20 hours)

Looking to get into drone photography/videography? Mapping and surveying? Aerial inspection? These and many more careers are open to licensed drone pilots in Canada!

Once you have your Basic Operations pilot certification, you will need to upgrade it to Advanced Operations in order to conduct operations in higher risk areas, such as near people and in controlled airspace. In this two-and-a-half day course, we will prepare participants ages 16+ to write the advanced level exam with Transport Canada, and also prepare them for what to expect on an advanced flight review.

The course is a more intensive, in-depth "ground school" consisting of modules included in the Knowledge Requirements for Pilots of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, 3rd edition (TP 15263) published by Transport Canada, and is a blend of interactive lectures, class discussions, take home study materials, and flight operations practice. Laptops are provided for interactive activities (e.g. researching airspaces, locating weather forecasts, flight planning, etc.)

Students will learn the Advanced level portions of:

• Air law, air traffic rules and procedures
• RPAS airframes, power plants, propulsion and systems
• Human factors
• Meteorology
• Navigation
• Flight operations
• Theory of flight
• Radiotelephony

Basic Operations small RPAS pilot certificate
