Sailing Skills and Seamanship: The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's 13 week Sailing Skills and Seamanship Course (SS&S) is a comprehensive course that will prepare a sailor with the basic information needed to operate sailboats under a variety of conditions. This course does not lead to a boater education certificate.
Many insurance companies will offer discounts on boat insurance to individuals who successfully complete this course and can present their course completion certificate.
Note: This course has been downgraded to a seminar course and no longer carries a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) certification or a Boaters Safety Certificate.
