Advanced Lead Came

Copper Foil Experience and Cutting / Fitting Proficiency is Required!

Intro to Lead Came Workshop is a Prerequisite for this Class!

Tuition plus cost of tools and supplies. (Total Class Cost Approx. $325 - $375)

We call lead came the "Technique of Professionals". When someone comes into the store for a commission window, we'll frequently be building it in lead came. Once you have experience in the basics of stained glass construction through our copper foil classes, lead came is a great technique to add to your stained glass tool kit.

This advanced lead came class builds on the basics taught in our Intro to Lead Came workshop. It addresses the skills and strategies you need to learn to construct leaded panels with curved pieces and more challenging build strategies. It reinforces soldering techniques learned in the introductory class, and covers vital finishing techniques as well. Students will choose their pattern and cut and fit their glass independently before the first day of class. Please wear long pants, closed toe shoes and bring safety glasses if you own them.

BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS STUDENTS MUST:

  • Choose a pattern from Harmony's library of lead designs
  • Select and purchase your glass
  • Trace your pattern onto sticky-back paper, number all the pieces and mark the color and grain.
  • Cut your pattern apart with LEAD SHEARS on the internal lines and regular scissors on the perimeter.
  • Cut your glass pieces and grind to the paper. Remove the sticky-back paper and number your pieces.
  • Bring in week one: a plywood building board (at least 3/8” thick and 3” larger than your design in both directions and FLAT) - Home Depot, Lowes.
  • In week three only, bring your soldering iron, flux & solder.
  • In week four, wear work clothes and shoes; you will get dirty! Bring an apron if you wish.

We require that you purchase any class tools and supplies here at Harmony. By doing so, you help ensure that your local stained glass store will be here as a place for fun and learning for many years to come.

If you would like to register with a Gift Certificate or Harmony store credit please call us at 281-998-3381.
