Join club members on this outing to fish the Lower Owens River and other Eastern Sierra waters. This trip is on the weekend of the On the Water Intro class and the Euro-Nymphing class with Fred Rowe of Sierra Bright Dot Fly Fishing, but you don't have to take one of the classes to come and enjoy the Eastern Sierras with us! Kurt Marcks will be leading this trip. We need members to sign up through Corsizio so we can know who is coming. Please leave your cell number so we can contact you during the outing. Once you register here, you will receive email updates as necessary.
You must be a Deep Creek member in good standing to attend. Members are all responsible for their own food and lodging.
Fishing possibilities include the Lower Owens, Upper Owens, Hot Creek, the Owens River in the gorge, Pine Creek and Bishop Creek. It all depends upon conditions. If you subscribe to the fishing reports from Sierra Bright Dot and the Trout Fitter, you can get weekly reports and follow how all these waters are fishing.
Let's plan to meet at 10:00am at the day use parking area of Pleasant Valley Reservoir Campground next to the footbridge on Friday, March 28th. That's a good time to get on the water and will allow travel time for anyone leaving early Friday morning to get there.
What you need:
For nymph fishing gear check out the upcoming Lower Owens on the Water Class class page on Corsizio- it has a great list to get you going.
For small stream fishing (like the gorge) you can either wet wade or use hip or pants length waders. A shorter, 6'6" to 7'6", 2 to 4 weight rod with a floating line and clicker reel works fine. For flies, have some #14 elk hair caddis and #16 parachute Adams on hand. For dry dropper rigging have some #16 bead head pheasant tails and some #18 zebra midges.
Lodging:
Camping is available at Pleasant Valley Reservoir, Browns Town and Millpond camp grounds . Bishop also has many hotels and motels from the Motel 6 at about $100 a night to Creekside Inn which starts at $200 a night, and a lot in between. Check reviews and other with other club members who have visited Bishop often, some of the hotels can get a bit funky in town.
Dinner Friday night:
We will meet for dinner at 6:00pm Friday March 28th at Taqueria Las Palmas in Bishop. We meet in the private back room; the food is great!
Come to the pre-trip meeting on Wednesday March 12th at 7:00pm for a more comprehensive discussion on gear, accommodations in Bishop, camping and more.
