I Love Learning ASL

FUNDAMENTALS ASL 1 Classes are designed for students with no previous ASL experience or for students that have very little knowledge of ASL beyond the alphabet and a few basic words.  

This class is your starting point on your journey of learning ASL and is recommended for all students. This class is instructed with both voice on and voice off instruction.

In this class you can expect to learn the basic concepts on the following topics:

• History of ASL
  
• Introduction to Deaf Culture
• Introduction to fingerspelling
• 5 Parameters of ASL
• How the body is set up in ASL
  
• ASL Alphabet and the importance of Fingerspelling
  
• Numbers up 99
  
• Family Signs
  
• Pronouns
• Colors

At the completion of this 4-week class, students will be recommended to the next appropriate level of class based on comfort and skill level. Most student with little to no prior ASL experience will benefit greatly from a continuous journey through all 3 levels of Fundamentals classes. These classes build on each other weekly and help to develop a strong fundamental base in the language prior to moving on to beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes.
