VT AOE: Algebra for All Learners Part 2 6 Hour Workshop
Can all students grasp algebra? A significant body of evidence suggests they can. To support all students in learning algebra, it is fundamental for teachers to have a thorough understanding of the various ways students acquire, interpret and process abstract concepts such as functions and equations. Setting up a classroom environment that provides a sense of belonging, engages students in productive struggle and cultivates problem solving skills is critical to student success.
Algebra for All Part 2 builds upon the pedagogical content and the developmental pathways discussed in Part 1. Algebra for All Part 2 will take a deeper look at the All Learners Network High Level Concepts for Algebra and discuss the learning progression students pass through on their journey. In this session, we will focus on making systems of equations and functions accessible for all students.
This workshop is a part of our math content series supported by the Vermont Agency of Education to build strong pedagogical knowledge supported by deep math content. We will spend time exploring a variety of ways to think about key algebra concepts and how to improve pedagogy through conceptual models and engaging problem solving tasks.
The VT Agency of Education is sponsoring this event making it free for participants. You will receive a Zoom link the day before the event. Please contact ashleymarlow@alllearnersnetwork.com with any questions.
