Glass on Glass Mosaics

Students will create a small (5” x 5”), framed, mosaic piece using colorful glass tesserae adhered to a piece of clear glass. No experience in glass or mosaic required! If you enjoy jig-saw puzzles, you will love making art from random shaped pieces. Students can explore the “crazy paving” technique with a simple design or just have fun letting the creative instincts flow for an abstract look, with the support from instructor Cindy Michaud.
Our goal is to learn how to use a PVA glue with glass; we will discuss how to apply and move the tesserae, explore possible light effects, how to make compositions flow, and how to use grout lines. We will grout on a Wednesday Open Studio morning.* Students' finished piece will be for indoor display only. Please wear closed toe shoes and bring an apron! All materials will be supplied, but if you have wheeled glass nippers (not compound nippers used for tile) please bring them.
Schedule:
March 7, Friday, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm, 3 hours of class time
March 12, Wednesday,* 10 am - noon, we will grout during open studio.
*if you cannot make the grout day, the instructor will grout your piece for a small fee. You can retrieve your finished work at the Arts Council after that date.
Potential students are free to reach out to Cindy with any questions.
