🎨 Creative Approaches to Surface Design on Fabric with Jeanne Brady

A four-day hands-on retreat exploring color, print, and expressive surface design on cloth

Discover the creative possibilities of surface design on fabric with artist and printmaker Jeanne Brady. In this dynamic four-day workshop, you’ll experiment with color layering, mark-making, and mixed techniques that transform plain cloth into vibrant, expressive textiles.

Through guided demonstrations and personal exploration, Jeanne will introduce you to her intuitive approach to printmaking and color composition. You’ll use thickened dyes, resists, stencils, and hand-drawn imagery to build depth and visual rhythm, learning how to translate your design ideas into richly textured cloth.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a collection of unique fabric samples and one or more finished art cloth pieces suitable for quilting, collage, or framing.

Workshop Flow

Day 1 – Foundations & Inspiration
• Introduction to tools, materials, and safety
• Color mixing, design planning, and initial print layers

Days 2–3 – Process & Exploration
• Thickened dye printing and layering
• Stenciling, resists, and mark-making techniques
• Combining painterly effects with controlled pattern

Day 4 – Refinement & Finishing
• Final overprints, composition review, and critique
• Finishing cloth for mixed-media or fiber use

Studio Environment
Create in Aya’s spacious, light-filled fiber art studio in Stuart, Florida — designed for experimentation and creative play. Each participant enjoys ample workspace (no more than two per 4′×8′ table) with power, USB access, and full use of dye and printing facilities.

Enjoy morning coffee, tea, and pastries, personalized lunch pickups from local cafés, and a supportive, energizing atmosphere.
