2-day Workshop: Mountain Dulcimer for Beginners

Mary Greene, an experienced teacher and award-winning player of the instrument, is offering a two-part class for beginner mountain dulcimer. No experience is needed, but you must bring your own dulcimer instrument.
Mountain dulcimers are very approachable and beginners quickly find success with the instruments. Students will learn the anatomy of the dulcimer, to tune the instrument, to play simple melodies, and add rhythmic strumming in 4/4 and 3/4. Students will learn to play simple Appalachian favorites such as Bile Them Cabbage Down, Go Tell Aunt Rhody, Down in the Valley, and Skip to My Lou. After finishing the classes, students will have enough basic skills to play tunes with the monthly Mountain Dulcimer Gathering that meets at the Arts Council every 2nd Saturday from 11 am - 1 pm.
