Invasive Species Identification Walk
Join us for an informative and hands-on Invasive Species Identification Walk at Deer Lake Outdoor Center on Sunday, May 4, 2025! This event provides an excellent opportunity for nature enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and local community members to learn about invasive species that threaten the local ecosystem.
For this program, Deer Lake is thrilled to welcome Emily Picard, UConn 4-H Extension Educator (Environmental Literacy Program) and invasive plant crusader, to guide participants through Deer Lake and identify various invasive plants. During this walk, participants will gain valuable insights into how these species disrupt local wildlife and habitats, and you'll also learn about methods to prevent their spread. The walk will offer practical tips for identifying invasive species in your own backyard and other natural spaces, as well as how to report and manage them.
Whether you're a beginner or have some experience with ecology, this event is perfect for anyone interested in environmental conservation and the preservation of local biodiversity. Come prepared to explore the outdoors, ask questions, and take part in hands-on identification activities.
Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle. This walk is family-friendly and suitable for anyone with an interest in deepening their understanding of invasive plant species.
