ENT Emergency Surgery Refresher Course
The fast paced 1 day revision course of live dissection on 2 sides of a high quality fresh frozen cadaver specimen. You will be assisting another surgeon for the course duration. Each pair of surgeons will dissect 4 necks, 4 noses, 4 eyes and 4 ears in 7 hours.
There is a strict 20 person dissector limit in the lab.
The RNSH ENT department surgeons will providing detailed guidance on the approaches.
Brief lectures (1 hour total) on the anatomy and steps of the following operations will be offered, including:
- Neck – Neck approaches for trauma and deep neck space infection management.
- Nose – Lateral Canthotomy, external approach to the anterior ethmoid ligation, orbital decompression, SPA ligation
- Ear – Cortical mastoidectomy
This is a revision course where each pair of surgeons will have the opportunity to dissect 4 orbits, 4 noses, 4 necks and 4 ears in 7 hours.
Objectives
- The course is designed for consultants to revise the operative anatomy and surgical steps for common ENT emergencies encountered in ENT practice.
- Practice the surgical skills of ENT Emergency surgery including , neck approaches for trauma/ infection; rhinological emergencies and cortical mastoidectomy.
Target Audience
- The course is designed for practicing surgeons and trainees who cover ENT emergency oncall at teaching or private hospitals. Please note this is a fast paced revision course not a slow teaching dissection course.
