Junk Journaling Workshop: Transforming Memories into Art

A Junk Journal is a handmade or altered book crafted from a mix of materials, including recycled items such as old sheet music, maps, magazine clippings, ticket stubs, photos, buttons, ribbons, fabric, and other ephemera. This workshop is a great opportunity to bring in things you’ve collected—such as a hardback book (one that’s ready for a total transformation), scrap fabric, magazines, or fun trinkets—to incorporate into your creation.

What can you do with a Junk Journal?
Junk journaling is a creative and therapeutic outlet that allows you to document memories, preserve keepsakes, and express yourself in an authentic and artistic way. The process of sorting, cutting, gluing, and layering imagery fosters mindfulness, reduces stress and anxiety, and encourages self-reflection. By combining art-making with writing, junk journaling provides a meaningful and healthy way to process emotions and experiences.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn about different styles of junk journaling and art journaling
  • Experiment with layering, collage, and mixed-media techniques
  • Sort, clip, tear, cut, and glue ephemera into a handmade or altered book
  • Observe and reflect on the process and purpose of your project

Benefits of Junk Journaling:
✔ Reduces stress and anxiety
✔ Promotes mindfulness and self-expression
✔ Encourages creativity and experimentation
✔ Provides a sense of accomplishment
✔ Helps process emotions through art and writing
✔ Enhances cognitive functions and fosters gratitude

Join us for this hands-on workshop and transform everyday scraps into a meaningful, one-of-a-kind keepsake!
