Veterans Art Program: Wheel Throwing Planters

Date: Fridays, April 4th, 18th, & May 2nd

Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm

Place: Throwing Room

This is a FREE art program for veterans ONLY. No experience necessary.

**All Supplies will be provided but it is encouraged to bring your own supplies.

This workshop is divided into three sessions, each designed to guide participants through the process of creating planters. Whether you are a beginner or have some experience with pottery, this workshop will help develop your skills and explore creativity.

Part 1: Introduction to Pottery and Basic Techniques

The first session introduces the basics of pottery, including techniques for shaping and molding clay. Participants will learn how to use the potter's wheel to create the foundation of their planters. This session focuses on familiarizing attendees with the material and tools.

Part 2: Advanced Techniques and Personalization

· Carving: Learning different carving techniques to add intricate designs to planters.

· Texturing: Experimenting with various tools and methods to create unique textures.

· Decorative Elements: Adding embellishments like handles, feet, and other creative details.

· Personalization: Encouraging attendees to infuse their style and creativity into each planter, making them truly one-of-a-kind.

· Creativity and Experimentation: Emphasizing the importance of exploring new ideas and pushing creative boundaries.

The second session builds on the skills acquired in the first part, introducing more advanced techniques such as carving, texturing, and adding decorative elements to planters. Attendees will personalize their creations, making each piece unique. This session emphasizes creativity and experimentation.

Part 3: Glazing and Finishing Touches

· Introduction to glazing techniques

· Demonstrate various glazing methods

· Selection of colors and finishes

· Hands-on glazing practice

· Final adjustments and finishing touches

· Preparation for firing

The final session involves glazing the planters. Participants will explore different glazing techniques and choose colors and finishes that reflect personal style. By the end of this session, planters will be ready for firing, emerging as completed projects.

Instructor: Nicole Zimmerman

Nicole Zimmerman was born and raised in the charming town of Great Falls, Montana. From an early age, she exhibited a profound passion for helping and teaching others to reach their full potential. This passion for education and mentorship has been the guiding force behind her professional journey.

Nicole holds an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Interior Design from Great Falls College MSU, which has contributed to her strong foundation in creativity and design. Throughout her career, she has gained extensive experience in teaching and facilitating educational, growth, and creative activities for many age ranges and diverse backgrounds. She finds immense joy in working with individuals from various populations, sharing her knowledge, and empowering others to achieve their goals.

Currently, Nicole is a stay-at-home mom to a wonderful 9-year-old and wife to a supportive husband. She is also embarking on a journey of discovery with ceramics, enjoying the process of exploring new hobbies and fostering creativity in her daily life. Nicole firmly believes in lifelong learning and the power of community.

In her free time, Nicole loves camping and spending quality time with her husband and son. Together, they engage in activities that bring them closer as a family, whether it's exploring the outdoors, making art, or simply enjoying each other's company. Her philosophy is centered around continuous improvement and personal growth. She is dedicated to creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and inspired to learn. Nicole's goal is to make a positive impact and leave a legacy through education and creativity.
