Painting for Absolute Beginners (Adults 18+)
(including people who feel rusty, haven’t painted for a long time, or just like to paint!)

Class fee $360 ($45 per 2 hour class)

Remember how much fun it was to paint as a child? If you haven’t picked up a paint brush since kindergarten — or if you haven’t painted for a long, long time —this class is designed for you. Lori Sanford-Ross has taught hundreds of beginning students to paint well and experience the joy of painting. Painting is an accessible, teachable skill that will lead you on a path of personal expression while heightening your awareness of the world around you.

We will start at the beginning, learning technical skills such as brush stroke technique, palette knife use, mixing color, finding value, etc., while you progress rapidly using a limited palette of 8 acrylic colors. Simultaneously we will build up your perceptual and “post-class” skills by working from exciting, abstract still life arrangements. You will have time to try different approaches, such as trying spontaneous “wet on wet” painting, compared to preparing more formal compositions, to find an approach best suited to you.

The goal of the class is to create a safe, non-judgmental, positive and focused environment, so you can learn and your art can thrive. It’s almost summer! Let’s start painting again, and artfully embrace our beautiful Hudson Valley visual world.
