VAPA Foundation

This camp is open to all students currently enrolled in 7th or 8th grade at a San Diego Unified School District school. A valid student ID number is required for final enrollment.

About this Camp:

This is a 2-part sampler course where each day, students will get to try out a variety of new art forms!

Part 1: Artistic Explorations Club Every class will bring engaging art projects inspired by majestic places, nature, history, and cultures from around the world. Learn about architecture and history of piracy, properties of light and how they’re used to build your own kaleidoscope, and much more! Every student will complete one project a day. Our artistic "menu" includes designing and building your very own log birdhouse; kaleidoscope; treasure box; mosaic mirror; a set of multi-media artworks, involving watercolor and a challenging printing technique. Travel though art, work alongside practicing artists, create and explore new skills!

Part 2: SPARK Fiber Art
This is an innovative fiber-based art class- think yarn crafting, sewing, and more! The basis of SPARK is engaging students in collaborative artistic practice. Instead of creating individual artwork, students will work with the artist partner to create a large-scale artwork that engages them in collaborative work and goal setting. Students are involved at every step of the process from ideation to creation to installation!

Artistic Explorations and SPARK Fiber are intermediate-level programs, where students will be working with different scissors, exacto knives, needles, paints, wood and custom art materials, including tumbled (polished) glass pieces. While all students are welcome to sign up, please note that these activities involve fine motor skills and ability to follow directions. If you're unsure in your child's ability to safely and comfortably engage in this type of work, please contact us in advance, so we can help determine whether this camp is a good fit or discuss possible accommodations.

• This 1-week camp runs everyday, Monday-Friday from June 9 to June 13.
• Student check in will be from 9:00am-9:15am, and student pick up will be from 11:45am-12:00pm.
• Camp instruction will be from 9:15am-11:45pm, with one half of the time being Artistic Explorations Club, and the other half of the time being Spark Fiber Arts.
