Course Purpose
This course will train instructor candidates to teach basic-level American Red Cross First Aid CPR and AED courses. In order to participate in this course you must possess a current basic-level American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED (or higher level) certification or equivalent and be at least 16 years of age on the last day of the instructor course.
Upon registration, it is important that you review and follow the directions in the e-mail attachment sent with your registration confirmation. This is a blended learning course consisting of online content a skills session and classroom segments. Online material must be completed prior to attending the classroom activities. For more information please reference the attachment you will receive via e-mail when you register for this course.
Prerequisites
- Possess a valid certificate in a basic-level First Aid/CPR/AED, concurrent enrollment accepted. See the list below for equivalent requirements.
- Be at least 16 years of age on the last day of the course.
You are required to have a current basic-level certification in Adult CPR/AED or higher from the American Red Cross or from a Red Cross-approved organization:
- American Red Cross: Adult CPR/AED, Basic Life Suppor,t Advanced Life Suppor,t CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, Emergency Medical Response, Lifeguarding.
- American Heart Association: HeartSaver FirstAid/CPR/AED, Basic Life Support
- Health and Safety Institute (HSI) • Includes American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) and Medic First Aid: CPR/AED
- National Safety Council: CPR/AED
- Canadian Red Cross: CPR/AED
- Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation: CPR/AED
- National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians: Active State Licensure or Certification Paramedic, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Responder
- Emergency Care and Safety Institute: Standard First Aid, CPR, AED*, Advanced First Aid, CPR, AED*,

*Note: American Heart Association HeartSaver First Aid/CPR/AED Instructors or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Instructors are not required to hold a basic-level certification as the AHA Instructor certification covers both basic-level and instructor-level certification.

Other Course Information
- Expect to spend 8-12 hours to prepare for the in-person session. DO NOT wait until the last minute to begin preparation.
- Students will be given 1 hour for lunch mid-day. Please be prepared with a packed lunch or make plans to eat during the break.
- The Blended Learning content will be sent to candidates within 48 hours.
