Description

  • The Appalachian Egg Basket is a traditional ribbed basket with two lobes, perfect for transporting eggs. In this class, you’ll learn three-point lashing, how to insert primary and secondary ribs, and how to weave efficiently to fill the quadrants. I’ll share all the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way.
  • Please note: This class includes a shorter follow-up session on Sunday afternoon for finishing your basket and addressing final details.
  • When registering, students will be given the option to purchase an additional basket kit for $45. People who have made baskets before may have time to begin a 2nd one. Others may like a kit to work on at home.

Prerequisites for participants:

  • No experience needed, but it is helpful.

Materials to be provided by/additional instructions for students:

Please bring to class:

  • A tub or bucket for soaking reed
  • A spray bottle for water
  • Measuring tape
  • A towel
  • Clothespins
  • Scissors
  • sharp knife

Recommended:

  • an apron
  • basketry sheers (I will have multiple that we can share, but it’s easiest if everyone has their own pair.)
  • an awl (highly recommended!)
  • sand paper

Bring lunch and a snack if you’d like. There is a microwave and refrigerator in the building and hot water is available for drinks.
