Derbyshire (North of Eyam) - Public Walk
This is a 9.5 mile moderate walk from the village of Eyam, to coincide with Well Dressing week in the village ( a tradition unique to the Peak district). The practice of dressing wells with pictures of natural materials started as as a way of giving thanks for deliverance from the plague.
The walk starts with a steep climb up Eyam Edge before heading across Eyam Moor. It then drops down through woodland to Stoke Ford then climbs steadily up & across Abney Moor. The return route is mainly downhill following field paths from Great Hucklow into Grindlow & then Foolow. We hope to have some good views across the peak district & see the heather over the moors in flower.
Meet at 10.20am to leave promptly 10.30am in the back /2nd car park, Hawkhill Road , opposite Eyam Museum S32 5QP what3words///pancake.requested.tarnished
Bring your flask/drink & a picnic. Walking poles recommended. We hope to go to a tea room after the walk in the village.
The walk will be lead at steady (not slow ) pace, suitable for regular walkers with experience of walking on hilly terrain & moorland.
