Overview
This in-person course prepares youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities videos and discussions to develop essential real-life readiness babysitting skills. The course covers feeding diapering picking up and holding children safety and emergency response. Participants receive a 10-year Babysitter's Training certificate upon completion.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners will be able to:
- How to be an effective leader
- How to start a babysitting business and find work
- How to keep everyone safe
- How to provide basic child care for children and infants
- How to perform basic child care skills (e.g., picking up and holding, bottle-feeding, spoon-feeding and diapering)
- How to choose age-appropriate activities
- How to recognize and handle a variety of behavior challenges
- How to take the emergency action steps: CHECK—CALL—CARE
- How to recognize and respond to choking emergencies
- How to perform abdominal thrusts and back blows/chest thrusts for children and infants
- How to recognize and respond to bleeding emergencies
- How to apply direct pressure to control external life-threatening bleeding

- Parent/Guardian/Authorized Pick-up Person: The student's parent/guardian or authorized pick up person must pick up the student at the conclusion of the class with a photo-ID. For security, students will not be released to anyone other than who is listed in the enrollment form.
