Humanities at Divis Educational Services is a joyful adventure into cultural historical developments, especially through literature, art, music, religion / philosophy, and the interplay of scientific innovation. We'll take a chronological, project-based journey through highlights globally from the Renaissance to modern times, with eventual focus on the rise of the United States, using simulations / role play, games, demonstrations, literature / writing, library research, and fine art explorations. Participants will create a notebook of work and reflections. Participants will also receive direct instruction on literature analysis (to include many genres and primary sources), grammar, and composition and will at times be required to provide their own text copies, typically available at public libraries.

As this course is suitable for a high school social studies and/or language arts credit, it is not recommended for those who are not able to read and write independently. Please seek input from the director with questions about whether this class would be a good fit for your child's needs and abilities.

Also, please note that this segment is part #4 of five parts, making a yearlong class running from August 2025 through May 2026. Participants must re-enroll for each segment prior to the start of each.

Participants, please bring a sack lunch and drink, and wear good walking shoes, as we often eat lunch and/or complete activities in nearby parks.
