[ONLINE] Debate (6th-12th)
What they will learn: This advanced debate course challenges students to explore national and global issues through structured argumentation. Students will learn to build and defend a debate case, conduct effective research, analyze expository texts, and take organized notes (flowing) during live debates. They’ll develop critical thinking, persuasive speaking, and quick-response skills essential for high-level competition.
How it applies to the real world: Students will strengthen their ability to think independently, speak persuasively, and engage in respectful dialogue. These skills that are invaluable for leadership, academics, and civic engagement.
Deliverable: Depending on class size, students will participate in Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, or Congressional debate. They will follow current events, build case files, and present their arguments in a live class debate or tournament setting.
*Prerequisite: Students enrolling in this class must have taken at least 1 semester of Art of Public Speaking, Introductory Debate, or prior competition experience.
