Stumble joyfully into your clown in this 6-week course.

Each session will begin with group warm-ups to loosen habits, challenge instincts, invite play and build ensemble. From there, we’ll explore a range of clown archetypes, historical lineages, and cultural realities, examining not just how clowns perform, but why they’ve remained vital to societies across time.

Through guided improvisations, games, and reflective discussion, we’ll investigate the clown as the truth-teller, rule-breaker, mischief-maker, and master of beautiful and relatable failure.

No prior performance experience is required—just a willingness to be surprised. There will be an end of class showcase where we take clown circumstances/ archetypes and make them our own to share on stage with friends and strangers.

Whether you’re new to clowning or looking to deepen your practice, this course offers space to explore the joyful, absurd, and deeply human art of the clown.

Tumbleweed Bio: Keara, playfully known as Tumbleweed, has been a professional clown for 10 years. Her career began at Detroit’s legendary Theatre Bizarre. She brings her energy and antics to festivals, events, circuses and the streets across the country. Her training includes the Clown Conservatory at the Circus Center in SF and an intensive with Avner the Eccentric.
