This 8-week course is designed for those with some experience in pottery. It is recommended that you take beginning ceramics at least twice before this class, as it is developed for those familiar with the pottery wheel. This course will help to move beyond the basics through scale, design, attachments, and more. Students should feel confident with wedging and centering clay, as the focus will be on more complex and multiple forms, such as lidded vessels and other functional kitchen items. One bag of clay with all glazes and firings are included; additional clay is available for purchase.
Instructor: Brent Viste

Brent Viste is the Gift Shop Manager at Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art. He was born in Missoula and grew up in Great Falls.

He serves in a forward-facing position at the museum and is ready to greet all who enter with positivity and museum information. Brent is directly responsible for the overall management and operation for the Gift Shop. He sets goals and objectives, oversees inventory management, sales, artist consignment coordination and customer service. He is responsible for the appearance and presentation of the Gift Shop to the community and to visitors. He works with a Gift Shop committee consisting of individuals from the community to process calls for Gift Shop artists and to vet selections of artwork.

As an active artist himself, Brent enjoys the frequent interactions with fellow artists and art lovers who visit the museum and gift shop. Brent shares his passion for ceramics as an instructor, teaching pottery classes and leading pottery date nights at The Square. He received a Bachelor in Studio Arts from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. While earning his degree he also worked for a local art museum and gallery and learned as much or more about art from that experience. When not at The Square, he can be found exploring the natural beauty Montana has to offer or making pottery.
