Creative Wax Carving for Jewelry (5 Weeks)
Discover the sculptural side of jewelry making in this introductory wax carving class. Recommended for students who have taken at least one beginner metalsmithing class, this course offers a hands-on foundation in carving, shaping, and refining wax models for jewelry.
You’ll explore essential tools and techniques to design and create original wax prototypes, from rings to pendants, with a focus on texture, form, and three-dimensional design. In addition to wax modeling, we’ll touch on the basics of sand casting as another method for creating unique forms. While this class does not include in-studio lost-wax casting, your finished wax models will be sent to a local casting company at the end of the session. Sterling silver, bronze, and gold options are available, with pricing calculated by the final model weight.
A materials kit fee of $42 will be due on the first day of class. Your kit includes wax tools and modeling materials. Lost-wax casting fees are separate and not included in the class tuition.
By the end of class, you’ll have completed original wax models ready for casting, gained confidence with carving tools, and explored both wax and sand casting methods as part of your jewelry-making practice.
