AI in Research: Tools and Applications

This two-hour interactive workshop invites participants to explore Artificial Intelligence not as a threat to academic rigour, but as a practical ally across every stage of the research process. Grounded in the University's AI policy, the session takes a hands-on approach, prioritising experimentation and confidence-building. Participants will be introduced to a curated set of AI tools mapped to the research lifecycle.

The workshop also addresses the challenges most relevant to academic staff, understanding bias in AI outputs, upholding research integrity, and redesigning assessments to support ethical, AI-informed scholarship. Participants will leave with a clearer sense of where AI genuinely adds value in their research and how to use it responsibly within institutional guidelines.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Identify AI tools relevant to their research and teaching workflows
2. Apply those tools in a manner consistent with the University's AI policy
3. Evaluate AI outputs for bias, accuracy, and academic suitability
4. Discuss various ethical considerations of using AI in scholarship
