Generative AI In Higher Education: Course & Assessment Design

Wed, Mar 18, 2026, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM GMT-4
Online Learning (Synchronous)
This interactive workshop equips faculty with practical, evidence-based approaches to course and assessment design in an AI-prevalent environment. Grounded in The UWI AI Policy Framework, participants examine how responsible AI integration can enhance — rather than compromise — the quality and integrity of their courses and assessments.

The workshop is structured around two interconnected areas of practice: designing courses with AI whilst maintaining pedagogical integrity, and designing assessments that remain valid and meaningful in an environment where generative AI is readily available to students. Through direct instruction, applied prompt engineering, and discipline-specific group activities, participants leave with strategies and draft artefacts they can implement immediately

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Explain how The UWI AI Policy Framework informs responsible course and assessment design decisions.

2. Distinguish between designing courses with AI (pedagogy-led enhancement) and designing courses for AI (technology-driven substitution).

3. Apply core principles of effective prompt engineering

4. Evaluate AI-resistant and AI-integrated assessment strategies

5. Use generative AI to design purposeful course (instructional), and assessment artefacts
