Description

Over two days students will learn how to weave their very own kitchen towels on a rigid heddle loom. After designing their own kitchen towels, students will choose appropriate yarn and warp their looms.
They will be guided in tips and tricks to make rigid heddle weaving successful, as well as a few hand manipulation techniques to add interest and variety to rigid heddle weaving.

Prerequisites for participants:
  • No weaving experience is required. Students must bring rigid heddle loom, warping pegs and stick shuttles to class.
  • See Materials section below about borrowing equipment from Triangle Weavers.

Materials to be provided by/additional instructions for students:
Students must bring a rigid heddle loom to this class, along with all of its accessories. We recommend that the loom have a minimum of 15" weaving width and include a 10-dent or 12-dent heddle. Accessories should include a sley hook, stick shuttles, warping pegs, and table clamps.

  • There are a limited number of guild owned rigid heddle looms that are available on a first come, first served basis. If you need to borrow a guild loom, specify that on your registration form.
  • Borrowed looms may be taken home for up to two weeks after the class.
  • Non-members who borrow a loom must provide a deposit of $50 cash or check due at the first session. The deposit will be refunded after the return of the loom.
If you are not sure if your loom will work for the class, or if you are contemplating buying a new loom prior to taking this class, you can contact the Instructor (kelly@kellywoveit.com) for advice on what looms might work best for you.
  • Please bring a lunch or snack if you would like. Access to a refrigerator and microwave is available in the building.
