HSC English Weekly Focus Group (2 Hours) Ages 14-18

Structure:

• Duration: 2 hours per session

• Frequency: Weekly

• Focus Areas: One module or writing skill per week (rotating between Common Module and Elective Modules)

Session Breakdown:

1. Module Deep Dive (30 min)

• Review key themes, techniques, and syllabus requirements

• Analyse exemplar responses and marking criteria

2. Textual Analysis & Discussion (30 min)

• Close reading of prescribed and related texts

• Group discussion of textual evidence and interpretations

3. Writing Skills Workshop (40 min)

• Practice essay planning, paragraph structure, and thesis building

• Craft of Writing exercises (creative, discursive, persuasive tasks)

4. Timed Response & Feedback (20 min)

• Short response or essay paragraph written under exam conditions

• Peer and facilitator feedback

Expected Outcomes:

• Improved understanding of HSC English modules and assessment expectations

• Increased confidence in tackling past paper questions and unseen prompts
