Introductory course for new named veterinary surgeons
An introduction to the role of the Named Veterinary Surgeon in a research establishment.
The aim of this course is to equip new Named Veterinary Surgeons with the knowledge and skills needed to function effectively as an NVS from day 1. Taking place over a period of 2 days and using a problem-based approach, you will explore the role of the NVS and how to utilise your existing skills in the NVS environment. You will be introduced to sources of information, advice and support to aid in development of the required skills.
This course will give you the opportunity to discuss and analyse real life scenarios and consider how to manage them, preparing you for life as a named veterinary surgeon.
This course covers the Designated Veterinarian module as per the HO guidance and covers the learning outcomes in EU module 24.
The expectation from the Home Office is that new named veterinary surgeons will also have attended modules E1, L, K theory and E2, and PILA as appropriate depending on the species they are working with. The PPL module is also recommended. Please note that these modules are not covered during the NVS course because they are widely available elsewhere.
