Free
Wed, Oct 8, 2025, 12:00 – 2:00 PM CDT
Zoom
This training will focus on the intersection of Gender Based Violence and Immigration. The recent presence of immigration enforcement at the Domestic Violence Courthouse in Cook County, Illinois has only raised more questions and concerns among advocates for survivors of domestic violence. The presenters will give a brief overview of the different Illinois protective orders available to survivors of abuse, as well as an overview of applicable immigration remedies. The training will highlight the protections related to disclosures of immigration status during civil proceedings. The presenters will also discuss the potential impact of protective orders on immigration status or potential immigration relief of both Petitioner and Respondent.
This training is an opportunity for victim support roles not employed by law enforcement agencies to learn more about the benefits and risks of pursuing protective orders when considering one’s immigration status.
While the landscape is constantly changing, this presentation will bring to light many questions that may affect the immigrant community. The presenters will allow time for questions at the end of the training.
