First Aid Instructor Course

Who This Course Is For
This course is ideal for:
- Individuals with strong First Aid and CPR skills who want to teach others.
- Workplace health and safety leaders, educators, and emergency responders.
- Current instructors with other agencies (e.g. Lifesaving Society, St. John Ambulance) seeking Red Cross Instructor equivalency.
Prerequisites
Participants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Hold a current Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid with CPR C (or higher) certificate.
- Have at least one year of First Aid experience or equivalent teaching/training background.
- Complete the online Instructor Development Pathway, including Fundamentals of Instruction (if required).
Course Format
This course blends online learning, in-class sessions, and teaching experience components to ensure a well-rounded learning experience.
- Online module: Instructor fundamentals and Red Cross policies.
- In-class sessions: Two- to three-day interactive workshop focused on delivery, skill demonstration, and peer teaching.
- Teaching experience: Supervised instruction with a certified Teaching Experience Supervisor.
Course Duration
- Typically 32 hours total, including independent study and in-class components.
Certification
Upon successful completion, candidates receive certification as a Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor, valid for three years and recognized nationwide.
