Bobbin Basics

This Intro to Sewing course is for kids ages 8+ with no or very little sewing experience. It is designed to teach kids the basics of sewing on a sewing machine. They will learn the main parts of a sewing machine, machine safety, how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, sew a straight stitch, reverse stitch, and more.

They will get to create a fabric bookmark and a rice heat-pad to keep. They also may get “free sew” time, which is extra time at the end of class to make their own projects using my scrap fabric. Once kids have completed this course they may sign up for my monthly beginner sewing projects.

The Intro to Sewing course costs $120 which includes all materials*. Class is four consecutive weeks, 1.5 hours each day, and will be held at 210 S Main St., Springboro, on the second floor. It is in the same house as Chasing Light Art Studio. Drop off/pick up can be at the front of the building or at the back. To access the back of the building turn east on Market Street and use the small alley to drive around back. There is a set of stairs leading up to the back entrance, or there is a ground floor entrance located on the south side of the building which can be accessed from the porch. *A coupon code is available for siblings who register for the same class. If not enough sign ups are reached the class may be cancelled or postponed. All money paid before class starts will be reimbursed if there is a cancellation.

Class size will be limited to 6 students. I will provide everything for this Intro to Sewing course - including a machine. Your child may bring their own machine if they'd like however, because my studio is on the second floor carrying the machine will require help from an adult. Sewing machines can be stored at my studio but please make sure your child's name is on the machine.

If they have them, your child may bring their own sewing tools such as scissors, pins, seam ripper, etc. Please be sure to label all your supplies. I can provide all sewing tools if your child does not have any.

Please do not allow your child to come to class if he/she does not feel well and contact me to see if a makeup class is available.

I occasionally take pictures of the kids during class to post on my social media sites, including Facebook and Instagram. If you do not want your child’s picture taken please let me know.

If kids finish their projects early they are welcome to free sew - which means they can use my fabrics to make their own creations.
