Capturing Ephemera: Cold Connections with Metal
Learn to join metal using tiny nails and rivets--known as cold connections, because they don’t need the heat from a jeweler’s torch! These techniques are great for connecting metal to alternative materials like paper and plastic that can’t take exposure to heat. Explore how to capture found objects and stones using a variety of cold connections. Essential techniques to cover are regular rivets, flush rivets, and tube rivets, in combination with pierced metal elements and tabs to capture precious relics. Incorporate your ephemera-like objects such as snippets of love letters, maps of important places, small scraps of embroidery or fabric, favorite river rocks, or keepsake locks of hair. Make wearable items or small sculptures with cold connections and your favorite keepsakes.
