SHADOW WEAVE
Weave with Illusions: Discover Shadow Weave!
Shadow Weave is a mesmerizing color-and-weave technique that brings a three-dimensional look to your handwoven cloth! While the basic interlacement is simple plain weave, the magic comes from using alternating contrasting colors in both the warp and weft, based on a structure drafted from a twill design. The resulting visual pattern seems to sink into the surface, offering an effect entirely different from the physical yarn interlacement.
In this class, you will design and weave a scarf using smooth, lustrous Tencel yarn in contrasting colors.
What you will learn:
- Drafting: How to convert a twill draft into the unique threading and tie-up for Shadow Weave on a 4-shaft loom. You can use pattern created in class or use a provided design.
- Yarn Selection & Color Theory: Tips for choosing appropriate yarns and colors to maximize the shadow effect.
- Warping: A quick and efficient method for winding a two-color warp.
- Weaving: Techniques for smooth and efficient weaving using two shuttles to manage your contrasting weft colors.
Unleash the optical power of color-and-weave and create a textile that truly captures the eye!
