[ONLINE] Elementary Debate (4th-5th)
What they will learn: In this fast-paced debate course, students will sharpen their ability to think quickly, organize ideas under pressure, and respond persuasively in one-on-one debates. They’ll learn to craft clear arguments, deliver strong rebuttals, and maintain composure in timed, spontaneous rounds. The course emphasizes logical reasoning, quick analysis, and confident delivery—all essential skills for success in competitive SPAR and beyond.
How it applies to the real world: SPAR debate trains students to think critically, listen actively, and respond thoughtfully—skills that enhance classroom discussions, interviews, and real-world communication. It builds adaptability and confidence, teaching students to defend their ideas while respecting opposing viewpoints.
Deliverable: By the end of the course, students will participate in multiple competitive-style SPAR rounds, debating a variety of current and creative topics. They’ll receive individualized feedback on argument structure, refutation, and speaking style to prepare for future tournaments and public speaking success.
*Prerequisite: Students enrolling in this class must have taken at least 1 semester of Art of Public Speaking, Introductory Limited Prep, or completed advanced Little Orator classes.
