What they will learn:

Students in this advanced course will refine their impromptu speaking skills for competition settings. They’ll learn to analyze complex prompts—such as quotations, abstract concepts, and current issues—and craft organized, original speeches under strict time limits. The class focuses on advanced techniques in structure, argumentation, pacing, and audience engagement to elevate competitive performance.

How it applies to the real world:

Competitive impromptu speaking strengthens critical thinking, adaptability, and persuasive communication—skills essential for leadership, academics, and professional success. Students learn to think deeply, argue effectively, and speak confidently under pressure.

Deliverable:

By the end of the course, students will present multiple tournament-style impromptu speeches, participate in mock rounds, and receive targeted feedback to prepare for local and national speech competitions.

*Prerequisite: Students enrolling in this class must have taken at least 1 semester of Art of Public Speaking, Introductory Limited Prep, or completed advanced Little Orator classes.
