This is a live, virtual training held via Zoom.

Audience: Mental Health Professionals including Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, Graduate Students and pre-licensed therapists who are on a track to licensure.
Prerequisite: Participants must have fully completed an EMDRIA-approved EMDR Basic Training.

About This Course:

This workshop will explore the application of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in treating sexual dysfunctions that may be rooted in trauma, anxiety, relationship issues, and negative core beliefs and thoughts. Participants will learn how to integrate the 8 phases of the standard EMDR protocol to address underlying emotional and cognitive barriers affecting sexual well-being and functioning. The training will include utilizing the EMDR case conceptualization, as well as evidence-based practice interventions, to enhance clinicians’ skills in applying EMDR to treatment of sexual dysfunctions.

Learning Objectives:

At the close of this training participants will be able to:

1. Describe the sexual dysfunction diagnoses found in the DSM-5-TR

2. Identify the impacts of trauma, anxiety, and negative core beliefs on the sexual response cycle and explain how EMDR can be used to address these issues.

3. Demonstrate the application of EMDR protocols to process distressing memories and beliefs that contribute to sexual dysfunction.

4. Develop personalized treatment plans integrating EMDR techniques to improve sexual health and intimacy in clients.

About The Presenter:

Dr. Wohlsifer is the owner of the Boca Raton Center for Psychotherapy and a standing faculty member at Florida Atlantic University’s Sandler School of Social Work. He has over 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist and clinical educator. He is an EMDRIA Certified therapist as well as an EMDRIA Consultant in Training. He is an AASECT and Florida Certified Sex Therapist and is the Co-Chair of the American Family Therapy Academy’s Couple Therapy Interest Group. He is a Diplomat of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy. He has published in the area of sex therapy, social work education, and is an advisory editor for the journal Family Process.

Schedule – Eastern Time Zone

10:00 am - 11:30 am: Welcome and Overview of the EMDR standard protocol utilizing a trauma informed lens as well as a relational context to understand sexual dysfunctions and sexual concerns. 

11:30 am - 11:45 am: Break

11:45 am - 1:15 pm: Applying the standard protocol and AIP model to treat sexual dysfunctions and sexual concerns. Case Examples. Group discussion. Q&A. Conclusion.

Attendance Requirement

Per EMDRIA, participants must attend the training in its entirety and actively participate in all supervised practice exercises in order to receive a certificate of completion for their training. Those who miss more than 15 minutes of any portion of the training, at any point during the training, may be dismissed from the training at the discretion of the staff and will not receive a certificate of completion, CE credits, or a refund.

Florida Clinicians: Under 64B4 - 6.002, the 491 rules permit the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and the American Psychological Association (APA) to be approved continuing education providers for all 491 licensees. You will simply upload your CE certificate to CE Broker.
