Exploring The Nutcracker (Monday, December 22nd, 1:15 pm CT)

Join me for a special Christmas-themed class on December 22nd!

Children enrolled in Exploring The Nutcracker will listen to the story of The Nutcracker, a story originally written by E.T.A. Hoffman, which inspired Tchaikovsky's music for the famous holiday season ballet, and an album by Duke Ellington, too! In this class, we'll explore the story and some of the music, too.

While listening to the read-aloud, students will be encouraged to interpret what they hear using the art supplies or building materials of their choice. They can paint a picture, build a structure out of blocks or legos, craft the setting in Minecraft... or whatever form of expression feels good to them! I strongly believe that all forms of creative expression are valid and encourage them to participate in whatever way they'd like. At the end of each class, interested children can share their creations with the class and discuss the story as a group.

This class will take place on Monday, December 22, at 1:15 pm Central Time. The session will take place on Zoom and will run for 45 minutes. You will be sent a Zoom link once your registration is complete. Please bookmark this link, as the same one will be used each week.

You may enroll your child for this class even if they're not enrolled in any of my other classes.

Accommodations

This class is intentionally neurodivergent-friendly (I'm ND, too!). I don't mind if kids don't want to turn their cameras on, need to move around during class, or want to watch but not interact with anyone else. All needs and learning styles are welcome in my classroom & I want students to participate and interact in ways that feel comfortable to them! If there are any other accommodations you or your child need, please let me know and I'll do my absolute best to accommodate them!

Please note that all students will be muted while the story is read and, in larger classes, while each child shares their work.

Supply list

Please do not buy any new supplies unless you or your child want to. Children will be encouraged to create using items already in your homes. I do recommend getting a feel for what materials your child would like to work with ahead of class time each week and gathering them near where the child will be working, but feel free to improvise on the fly if they're inspired to work with a new material halfway through the story.
