The Harold
The Harold: A Six-Week Exploration of Improv's Foundational Format
Unlock one of the most iconic and influential structures in long-form improv. In this six-week deep dive, you’ll learn, practice, and perform The Harold - a collaborative, pattern-driven format created by Del Close and embraced by ensembles around the world.
This class breaks down the Harold into its essential parts:
- Dynamic Openings that generate themes, ideas, and shared inspiration
- Three beats of connected scenework that evolve, heighten, and explore patterns
- Group games that transform the ensemble into a single creative mind
- Organic connections and convergence that bring everything together in surprising, satisfying ways
Across six weeks, you’ll build the core skills that make the Harold sing: grounded scenework, pattern recognition, strong second beats, edits that build the story, and fluid group collaboration. You’ll also learn how to let go of forcing structure and instead discover how a Harold naturally emerges when the ensemble is fully connected and listening.
